Act on Energy is a charity based in Warwickshire, dedicated to educating the public about the problems associated with climate change, fuel poverty and other energy related issues.
Who is eligible?
All 4 criteria must be met
• Resident of Worcestershire
• A combined household income below £30,000 (gross) per year
• Have no household savings *
• Have someone living with a vulnerability
*Pensioners only/ Pensioners and children only households:
• Savings: Single pensioner households (with or without under 18 years in full time residence) can hold up to £5000 in savings.
• Multiple pension households (with or without under 18 years in full time residence) can have up to £10,000 in savings
What support is available?
• Financial support towards electricity, gas and water debts.
Financial support towards current energy – Electricity, Gas, Water, Oil, LPG, Solid Fuel (e.g. Coal or Wood) and water costs:
Up to £500 for households with children. Up to £300 for adult only households.
• Assistance to repair, service and replace broken boilers and heating systems:
Only available to:
Owner Occupiers and shared ownership, who have owned the property for a minimum of 12 months and the property is not or due to go on the market
Long term private rented tenants who have a contracted duty to repair.
• Replacement of boilers (all fuel types) beyond economic repair/or replacement parts/ repair.
• Replacement or repair of other types of heating systems e.g. storage heaters
• Installation of first-time heating systems where a gas supply is present
• Replacement of broken warm air systems to gas fired wet radiator systems
• Repair/replacement/installation of standard or smart heating controls

How do I apply?
Application is online via the Act on Energy website: actonenergy.org.uk.
Click on the Worcestershire map and then “Household Support Fund”. Those without internet access can call for help on 0800 988 2991, but must have energy account details to hand.

How quickly will I get this support?
This is not an emergency scheme. It can take up to 6 to 8 weeks to process applications
Am I guaranteed help if I apply?
No, there is no guarantee of support.
I don’t know my energy details, can I still apply?
Yes, but payment cannot be made until we have confirmation of your energy/water account numbers
I don’t want to send evidence, can I still get support?
No. Applications with missing information will not be processed.
I forgot to send all the evidence required, will you contact me if I don’t send complete evidence?
No, it is your responsibility to send the correct evidence.
I am not confident completing the debt/heating application forms, and don’t understand the evidence I need to send – can you help me with this?

Can I apply for all three types of support?

Can I get help with any household debt?
No, this part of the fund is for electricity, gas and water debt.
I received help from the first phase of the Fund between November 2021 and March 2022, can I get help again?
You cannot get the same type of support again.
For example, if you received financial support towards current energy or water costs through the last phase, you will not be able to receive that support again, but you could apply for help with debt or a broken heating system.
Somebody else in my household applied last time; if I apply this time, can I get the same support?
No, the support is per household, not per person.
I am a pensioner and already receive the Winter Fuel Payment from the government; can I still get help towards current energy and water costs?
I am a professional referrer / family member / friend, can I apply on behalf of someone else?
Yes, but you will need to provide all the details requested
What evidence is required for help towards ‘Current energy costs’:
A copy of the energy bill which you require the payment to be made, this can include LPG and fuel oil invoices
I received fuel vouchers last time and I am in desperate need again, can you help me now?
No. If you already received help towards current usage then you cannot receive that support again.
Will this payment affect my benefits?

Will the payments be treated as income when calculating my benefits?
No, Grant payments are made direct to the supplier
Do I get the financial support to my bank account?
No, with the exception of fuel vouchers for pre-payment meters, all payments are made direct to suppliers.
Do I get this support from the household Support Fund each month?
No, this is a one-off payment.
I have applied for fuel vouchers, will I get them today as I have no money on my meters and don’t know how I am going to manage?
This is not an emergency scheme. Applications are processed on first come first served it can take 6-8 weeks to receive support.
I have received my fuel payment or fuel vouchers but there is a problem what shall I do?

I have been told my fuel payment has been sent via BACS; what does that mean?
It has been paid by bank transfer direct to your energy or water supplier. It can take up to 10 working days to reach your account
I have moved house/changed supplier since applying, what should I do?
Notify us as soon as possible.
